Alumnus Charlie Roberts in a two-person exhibition at Rutgers University

Mason Gross Galleries Civic Square Building

NOVEMBER 6TH - NOVEMBER 14TH

RECEPTION THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH, 5PM - 7PM
Awards Ceremony for BFA / BA Students

Project Space Artists Aaron Hraba and Charlie Roberts will juror the 2008 BFA / BA ART OPEN

Aaron Hraba's photographs and videos make him one of the best Radical storytellers of his time. Through visits with his buddies from the early punk scene and family visits in Nebraska, Aaron absorbs his audience into an autobiographical world of internal social conflicts that the viewer cannot avoid.

Charlie Roberts' performance videos are silent testimonies that question what it means to be one with yourself. Through a series of videos, his figure as a multitude of gestures embrace, erase and suffocate the physical human existence; slipping in and out of life.

Alumnus Nikhil Chopra Exhibition in New York

Nikhil Chopra (MFA, Painting &Drawing, 2003) showed at the Thomas Erben Gallery (http://www.thomaserben.com/) 526 West 26th Street, 4th Floor, Chelsea from June 27 - July 10, 2008.

Performance based artist Nikhil Chopra is today recognized as one of the most important voices in contemporary Indian art. His practice, which involves inhabiting characters that evolve over a number of performances, enable the artist to draw audiences into a conversation which is as much about the overt narrative of the piece as it is a way of dealing with multiple art histories. The multi-layered nature of the performances lead into photographic and video based work released subsequent to the performances themselves. In the present show there will be both photographs and video work installed at the gallery in addition to which Nikhil will be performing on Sunday 29th June. Having studied in Baroda, India as well as the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, Nikhil returns to New York (a city he has previously lived in) on the back of a December performance in Mumbai hailed by many as the most interesting art project seen in the city for many years.
